Why do we celebrate Women’s Day on March 8. The women and their achievements are celebrated throughout the world annually.
Mrs Indira Gandhi
Firstly let’s speak about Mrs Indira Gandhi. She was the first female Prime Minister of the country. She has also helped the country in times of crisis like in the emergency of India in 1975.
Mrs Kadambini Ganguly
Next, we speak about Mrs Kadambini Ganguly. She was the first woman to study in Calcutta Medical College. During the British India, she was the country’s first female doctor who served a large number of people throughout her life.
Mrs Sarojini Naidu.
Next, we speak about Mrs Sarojini Naidu. Sarojini Naidu is often regarded as the nightingale of India because of the imagery and lyric of her poem. She was the first female to be appointed the president of the Indian Congress.
Ms Kiran Bedi
Ms Kiran Bedi is another remarkable woman of India. She was the first female officer to be appointed as an IPS officer where she served for thirty-five years. She has since become an author, television host and social activist.
Chanu Sharmila
We then speak about Irom Chanu Sharmila. She is known for keeping the longest hunger strike in the world by protesting for sixteen long years. She is a political activist who protested to demolish the Armed forces act of India.
We also have PV Sindhu who is the first female of India to win a world championship in Badminton and win two medals in consecutive Olympic games. She is one of the finest badminton players of the country.
We now take the name of Ms Mamata Banerjee. Ms Banerjee left Congress to form her party ultimately winning the state elections in 2011. Ms Banerjee has made several schemes for women and due to her contribution, she was awarded by the United Nations.
We then have Ms Nowhera Shaik of Karnataka, a well-known philanthropist, social worker and political activist. She has donated more than five thousand crores of money for the welfare of women in the country. She is a remarkable woman in the history of the country.
We then have Ms Kalpana Chawla who is the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. Ms Chawla is regarded as a National Hero and has been awarded by several Universities worldwide posthumously.
Last but not least is Ms Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She is the winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant and she’s a tremendous actress winning several awards. She is a beauty icon and is renowned around the world.
