Tom Holland

Tom Holland was born in Kingston upon Thames, England, on June 1, 1996, to photographer Nicola (née Frost) and comedian and novelist Dominic Holland. His younger brothers are three in number. Tipperary, Ireland was his paternal grandmother’s home.

Holland attended Donhead, a Roman Catholic preparatory school in Wimbledon, South West London, and then Wimbledon College, a Jesuit Roman Catholic comprehensive school (also in Wimbledon), until December 2012. For being a dancer, he was tormented at school. He went to the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon after graduating from Wimbledon College. Holland temporarily attended carpentry school in Cardiff, Wales, during a pause in his profession in his late teens.

His Debut

Holland started dancing at Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon, where she took a hip hop class. At the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival, he danced with his school group.

Holland made his West End debut in Billy Elliot the Musical as Michael Caffrey, Billy’s best friend, on June 28, 2008, after eight auditions and two years of training. On September 8, 2008, he made his debut in the title role, to rave reviews. Holland began his gymnastics training during his time as a cast member of the musical.

Acting Career

Holland made his first TV interview in September 2008, on station FIVE’s news programme, alongside co-star Tanner Pflueger. On the 31st of January, he appeared on the ITV1 show The Feel Good Factor, where he performed “Angry Dance” from Billy Elliot the Musical with Pflueger and Layton Williams, two additional actors in the lead role, and was interviewed by host Myleene Klass. He choreographed a dance routine for five British schoolboys for the final The Feel Good Factor on March 28, 2009.

He co-starred with Saoirse Ronan in the drama film How I Live Now, in which he played Isaac. Holland also appeared in a supporting part in Tom Hardy’s drama thriller Locke (2013) and made a cameo in Billy Elliot the Musical Live (2014) to honour his status as a “former Billy.”
