Lovlina Borgohain has become a popular name all across India. She has won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She is the third Indian boxer to have won a medal at the Olympics. She won a bronze medal in the Women’s welterweight event. This is not the first time she has created history by breaking records. Before Olympics, she had also won bronze consecutively at AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2018 and 2019. She was born in 1997, on 2nd October. She made a record after winning gold and silver medal respectively at the 1st and 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament held in New Delhi and Guwahati.
Lovlina Borgohain is a national pride. After her massive win in Olympics, she has been praised from all across the world. She is the second boxer from Assam to have represented India in the Olympics and the first female athlete from the state. She is also a recipient of the Arjuna Awards in 2020. She received the first break in her career after she got selected in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Welterweight Boxing Category. She could not make a big impact at first as she was knocked out by Sandy Ryan from the United Kingdom.
Her early life was also a story of struggle. She comes from a very middle class. Her father Tiken Borgohain, a small-scale businessman struggled financially but still supported his daughters. Lovlina’s elder twin sisters, Licha and Lima too had participated in National level Kickboxing competitions. Lovlina too had started with kickboxing but later shifted to boxing. She had an immense passion to prove herself in the sports field. She was trained by coach Padum Chandra Bodo. She was a young talent whom her coach believed in. she has kept his belief with this gargantuan success in Olympics. She has become the poster girl for power and struggle.
