Sonal Mansingh (born 30 April 1944) is an Indian classical cotillion and practitioner of Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancing styles. She has been nominated by the President of India to come a member of the Congress, Rajya Sabha. She’s the youthful philanthropist of Padma Bhushan in 1992 and Padma Vibhushan in 2003.
Early Life and family:
Sonal Mansingh was born in Mumbai. She is the second child among three children to Arvind and Poornima Pakvasa, a noted social worker from Gujarat and Padma Bhushan winner in the year 2004. Her father was named Mangal Das Pakvasa, a freedom fighter, and one of the first five Governors of India. She started learning Manipuri dance at the age of only four, along with her elder family, from a teacher in Nagpur, also at age seven she started learning Bharatnatyam from various expounders belonging to the Panda Nallur academe, that includes Kumar Jayakar in Bombay. She has” Praveen” and” Kovid” degrees in Sanskrit from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan and B.A.(Hons) degree in German Literature from Elphinstone College, Bombay.
Sonal Mansingh’s dancing career started in 1962 after she arranged in Mumbai, and in 1977, she innovated, the Centre for Indian Classical Balls (CICD) in New Delhi. Over the times, cotillion has taken her each over the world and brought her numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan( 1992), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987, and the Padma Vibhushan, India’s alternate loftiest mercenary award, in 2003; making her the alternate woman cotillion in India to admit such an honor after Balasaraswati. This was followed by Kalidas Samman of the Madhya Pradesh government, in 2006, and on 21 April 2007, she was conferred with a Croaker of Science( Honoris Causa) bib. Pant University, Uttarakhand at Pant Nagar, and Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) by SambalpurUniversity.To mark the completion of her 40 times dancing in 2002, noted Hindi film director, Prakash Jha made a talkie film on her, titled Sonal, which also won the National Film Award for Stylish Non-Feature Film for the time.
