Satwiksairaj Rankireddy

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (born on 13 August in the year 2000) is an Indian badminton player.  He and his partner, named Chirag Shetty, are the first men’s doubles pair from India to be ranked inside the top 10 of the BWF World Ranking, with a career-high ranking of 7 for both of them.

Personal Life

Rankireddy hails from a town named Amalapuram that is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh and started playing badminton after following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a very popular state-level player in the past, as well as his elder brother. In the year of 2014, he joined the Pullela Gopichand Academy which is located in Hyderabad, and decided to become a doubles specialist.

Career and Achievements

In the year 2018, Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty played an important role in earning India a historic decoration in the Mixed Team event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where they also won the men’s doubles silver. In 2019, Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the primary Indian doubles pair to win a BWF Superseries or BWF World Tour (Super 500+) title, after they won the Thailand Open the title, by beating their opponent Chinese pair of Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen within the final. They followed it up with a second-place finish at the 2019 French Open, where they lost within the final to the Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo However, they were the sole pair within the entire tournament who defeated eventual gold medalists Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin, whom they’d narrowly beaten in their first group stage encounter. In December, Rankireddy and Shetty qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals for the primary time in their career but withdrew from the tournament after a loss in their first group stage match to the player’s named Danish pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
