Penicillin By Alexander Fleming, a Scottish physician and scientist, is credited with developing penicillin. The easy discovery and use of the antibiotic agent saved millions of lives; earning Fleming the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1945, together with Howard Florey and Ernst Chain. Despite the fact that Fleming reported his discovery of penicillin in the British Journal of Experimental Pathology in 1929. His work was first met with scepticism by the scientific world.
Furthermore, Fleming struggled to isolate this valuable’mould juice’ in considerable quantities. In 1940, as he was considering retirement, two scientists, Howard Florey and Ernst Chain, became interested in penicillin. They were eventually able to industrially produce it in large quantities for use during WWII.

Moreover Alexander Fleming was born in Lochfield Farm, Scotland, on August 6, 1881 to Hugh Fleming and Grace Stirling Morton. Fleming was born in Scotland and raised in Scotland before moving to London; with his three brothers and sister to finish his schooling at the Regent Street Polytechnic.
Time in the Military
Especially Fleming entered the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1914 as a lieutenant and rose through the ranks to captain in 1917. On the Western Front in France, he and many of his coworkers worked in combat hospitals.
Fleming’s interest in the natural bacterial action of blood and antiseptics began early in his medical career. He was able to finish his studies during his military service, and following demobilisation, he was able to do so; he focused on developing antibacterial compounds that were not hazardous to animal tissues.
