Nikhat Zareen (was born on June 14, 1996) is an Indian boxer. She won a gold medal recently at the 2022 IBA [International Boxing Association] Women’s Boxing Championships. She also won a gold medal in the year of 2011 AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships that was held in Antalya a city in Turkey. In the second India Open International Boxing Tournament, she won a bronze medal held in Guwahati. Zareen ranked the fifth Indian woman to win a gold medal at the IBA World Boxing Championships for women. She generally works as a bank officer at the Bank of India since July 2021.
Career and Personal Life
Zareen’s father’s name is Mohammad Jameel Ahmed and her mother Parveen Sultana used to live in Nizamabad city of Andhra Pradesh (today known as Telangana). She did her schooling and education at the Nirmala Hrudaya Girls High School also located in Nizamabad. She pursued a degree in Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at AV College in Hyderabad. In the year 2020, Zareen presented electric scooters and won many cash awards of rupees ten thousand by the sports minister by their Authority of Telangana State (SATS).
Zareen was introduced to boxing in her childhood by her father, Mohammad Jameel Ahmed, and she trained by him for almost a year, she was inducted into the Sports Authority of India in 2009. A year later, Nikhat was being declared the ‘golden best boxer’ at the Nationals of Erode in the year 2010.
Awards and Achievements
On May 19, 2022, Zareen won the gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship defeating Thailand’s Jit pong Ju tamas in Istanbul, Turkey. Zareen ranked as the fifth Indian women’s boxer to win a gold medal also by joining Mary Kom, Jenny R. L., Lekha K. C., and more. She was the second Indian women boxer to win a World Championships Gold Medal from an abroad country after Mary Kom.
