Krishnakumar Kunnath (23 August 1968 – 31 May 2022) popularly known as KK among people, was a very famous Indian playback singer. He recorded songs in mostly all types of languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, and Gujarati.
In the very beginning KK startup, his career by singing for advertisement jingles, and made his first film debut with the great artist known A.R Rahman‘s soundtrack. In the year 1999, he launched his debut song album titled Pal. The songs “Pal” and “Yaaron” from the album Pal became very popular and widely spread among the public, and are commonly used in school and college farewells. His popular songs included “Tadap Tadap” from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), the Tamil song, “Khuda Jane” from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), and “Piya Aaye Na Year and “Tu Jo Mila” from Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), among others. He has received six Filmfare Awards.
Early Life
Born in Delhi to Malayali parents father C. S. Menon and mother Kunnath Kanakavalli, Krishnakumar Kunnath was brought up in New Delhi. KK sang over 3,500 jingles before breaking into his career in Bollywood.
KK is a student of Delhi’s Mount St Mary’s School and completed his schooling here, and got a degree from Kirori Mal College a Delhi University. He sang the “Josh of India” song for the support of the Indian Cricket Team during the Cricket World Cup of 1999, and they used to play this song as an anthem for the Indian Cricket team.
KK married Jyothy in the year 1991. His son Nakul Krishna Kunnath also sang the song “Masti” from his album Humsafar with his father and has a daughter too named Tamara Kunnath.
Death
On recent May 31, 2022, KK going to perform at the Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya fest at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata. At that time, he complained of feeling unwell because of the heat and so much crowd of people’s soon he gets back after his performance on the way to his hotel, where he suffered cardiac arrest. Efforts to revive him at the hotel were unsuccessful, and he was taken to the CMRI hospital in Kolkata where he was declared dead. He died at the age of 53 and in 1 June 2022, Kolkata Police registered a case of his death was unnatural.
