Draupadi Murmu (born 20 June 1958) is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party also called [BJP].  She is the official member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance for the year 2022 presidential election.  Murmu is the first woman who belongs to a scheduled tribe. Who nominated as a candidate for the post of President of India. She has previously served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand from the year 2015 to 2021 India.



Draupadi’s father and grandfather both were village heads under the Panchayati Raj system. Draupadi Murmu married Shyam Charan Murmu. He was a banker who died in the year 2014. The couple had two sons, both of whom died, and an only daughter.

Murmu started a career as a school teacher before entering state politics. She worked as an assistant professor at the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education university that’s also a Research Institute. She was also a Junior Assistant at the irrigation department of the Government of Odisha.


Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the very beginning of the year 1997. She was elected as the councilor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat Samiti. Murmu became the Chairperson of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in the year 2000.

During the BJP and Biju Janata Dal coalition in the government of Odisha, she was the Minister of the State with Independent Charge for Commerce and Transportation from 6 March 2000, to almost  August 6, 2002, and during Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from 6 August 2002, to May 16, the year 2004. She is both a former Minister of Odisha and an MLA from the Rairangpur Assembly in the years of 2000 and 2004. She was conferred Nilkantha Award for the best MLA by the state Odisha Legislative Assembly in the year 2007.
